The Bureau has determined that petroleum contaminated soil lies under the parking lot. The Department is seeking proposals for excavation and disposal of gasoline-contaminated soil and associated site safety and restoration measures.
The Department estimates 100-300 cubic yards of petroleum contaminated soil must be removed from beneath the parking lot. The contaminated layer lies below 3 to 8 of clean soil. The Department seeks a contractor to excavate, transport, and dispose of petroleum contaminated soil at a Department-approved facility. The soil is a dense till with significant amounts of concrete fill. Water could accumulate in the excavation. The excavation and fill work will likely start in July 2010.
