Request for Information (RFI)

Savannah River Nuclear Solutions, LLC (SRNS), which manages and operates portions of the Savannah River Site (SRS) under a Department of Energy (DOE) prime contract, seeks information from parties, capable of providing PVC film, that is used for the fabrication of fresh air hoods.


SRS plastic hoods are used in airborne radiological and chemical contamination areas. It is designed to provide a continuous flow of grade "D" breathing air (CGA/ANSI G-7.1-2004) to the user with a protection factor of 1,000. The hood consists of a one-piece clear plastic helmet, securely sealed to a shoulder-length cape. The cape is fitted with elastic straps, which permit securing the cape under the user's arms. The plastic hood PVC film must comply with the following standards.


ASTM D 1593-99 Standard Specification for Nonrigid Vinyl Chloride Plastic Film and Sheeting (Except burning rate and low temperature impact)


ASTM D-882-8809 Tensile Properties of Flexible, Vinyl Chloride Plastic Film


ASTM D 1004-94A Initial Tear Resistance of Plastic Film and Sheeting


NFPA 701-89 04 Standard Methods of Fire Tests for Flame-Resistant Textiles and Films


ANSI/ASQ Z1.4-2003 Sampling Procedures and Tables for Inspection by Attributes


FED-STD-191A Test Method 5874 - Temperature, Low; Effect on Coated Cloth


MIL-P-18080-89, Rev. A (2) Plastic Sheets, Vinyl, Flexible, Transparent, Optical Quality
