PC TO VSAM DATA CONNECTOR
The Department manages a number of mission critical systems to provide unemployment insurance services to workers who lose their job through no fault of their own. During periods of high unemployment, as is the case currently, it is critical for the department to ensure that reasonable steps are taken to help ensure that there is no disruption in these services due to a system or systems becoming unavailable.
The Department runs IBM's VSE/ESA (S/390 architecture) operating system. We no longer run it on
true S/390 architecture hardware. We migrated the second of our two "mainframe" system images to a tServer
solution from IBM Business Partner T3 Technologies.
This is comprised of an IBM dual 2.8GHz pentium (XEON) SMP server operating under SCO Unixware 7.1.3. In
this native server environment we run Flex-ES software Release 6.2.12 from Fundamental Software to emulate
multiple S/390 system images. The Department's Flex-ES license restricts the emulation to running
on only one of the server's two processors. The IBM business partner and various mainframe software vendors
have rated this configuration in the 30-34 MIPS (s/390) range.
