The Educational Service Center of Franklin County (ESCFC) seeks a qualified independent
evaluator, research organization, or evaluation group to conduct an evaluation of the Ohio
Performance Assessment Pilot Project. Grant-funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation,
this pilot project will be implemented in Ohio 11th and 12th grade classes in the content areas of
English language arts, mathematics and science as selected schools construct and implement
common, curriculum-embedded performance-based assessments and scoring rubrics and
practices. Participants will engage in common professional development sessions where they
will work in partnership with the Stanford University School Redesign Network and the Ohio
Department of Education (ODE), and receive support from regional and other state resources.
The Educational Service Center of Franklin County, in collaboration with the Ohio Department of
Education, seeks, via this evaluation and other activities over time, to determine the effect of the
Performance Assessment Pilot Project on student learning and on teachers professional
learning and instructional practices. The feasibility of including performance assessments in a
new statewide assessment system also will be evaluated.
