The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention intends to award a sole source firm fixed price purchase order to Eppendorf North America, Inc. for the purchase of an EpMotion 5073m Nextera instrument. The 5073m automated liquid handling system is used for automated nucleic acid purification and is also a flexible system for automating time-consuming and complex pipetting procedures, making routine liquid handling tasks more precise, reproducible and fully standardized. This instrument uses patented Eppendorf 3D-MagSep Technology, in which a combination magnetic finger module and ThermoMixer facilitate magnetic separation, mixing, and temperature control for nucleic acid purification or various other applications. The instrument can be used for both DNA and RNA purifications of up to 24 samples. This is patented technology available only in the Eppendorf instrument. This instrument has been used in ongoing research; using a different technology would negatively impact the validity of results. Without valid, reliable, and reproducible results, years of research would be jeopardized because data from an incompatible system would not be directly comparable or consistent with data that has been collected and analyzed over time. This contract action is for supplies or services for which the Government intends to solicit and negotiate with only one source under the authority of FAR 13.106-1(b) (SAP) and 10 U.S.C. 2304(c)(1). Interested persons may identify their interest and capability to respond to the requirement.

THIS NOTICE OF INTENT IS NOT A REQUEST FOR COMPETITIVE QUOTATIONS; however, all responses received within seven (7) days of the issuance of this notice will be reviewed by the government. A determination by the government not to compete this proposed contract based upon responses to this notice is solely within the discretion of the government. Information received will be considered solely for the purpose of determining whether to conduct a competitive procurement. Any response should be emailed to contract specialist at kwp9@cdc.gov by 20 August 2018.
