The New York Women's Foundation, which works to help achieve sustained economic security and justice for low-income women and girls in the five boroughs of New York City, is inviting applications for the third year of the RISE-NYC! grant program.
RISE-NYC! funds New York City community-based organizations working with women and families who continue to be negatively affected by the recession, with specific emphasis on single female heads of households, underserved older women, and immigrants.
The program will make one-year grants of $50,000 to maintain and expand existing programs in the five boroughs of New York City that promote family stability and economic security for women and families impacted by the economic crisis. The initiative will support programs that create immediate responses and/or systemic change that can enable women and families to maintain and restore family stability and economic security during the ongoing economic downturn.
RISE-NYC! funds programs in the following areas:
Education, training, and employment: programs must provide women with increased access to educational opportunities preparing them for higher paying jobs in high-growth, high-demand sectors such as technology, health care, and green jobs, as well as non-traditional careers such as "shovel ready" jobs in construction.
Business Development: programs must help women and families build and increase assets through such approaches as microenterprise financing, development and training, small business development, and the creation of individual development accounts.
Family Stability and Safety: programs must work to strengthen family stability by utilizing strategies such as foreclosure prevention, financial literacy, and skills development; increasing access to work and income supports such as child care, afterschool programs, and government benefits; and providing urgent mental health, domestic violence, and other crisis intervention services.
Applicants must be registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations located within and serving the five boroughs of New York City.
New York City nonprofit organizations applying as new applicants for RISE-NYC! funding are required to submit a proposal online by July 18, 2011.
