Grants will be awarded to nonprofits working to improve the health of New York State residents through the expansion of health insurance coverage, improved diabetes management and prevention, and integration of substance use and mental health services.
NYSHealth expects to award $6 million in grants as part of the 2009 Special Projects Fund. (The fund replaces what was previously known as the NYSHealth Special Opportunities Initiative.) Special Projects Fund awards are one-time, non-renewable funding opportunities. Eligible projects are coordinated interventions that take place over a specified period of time to achieve quantifiable results.
NYSHealth will consider proposals from existing nonprofit 501(c)(3) and for-profit organizations with a significant presence in New York State.
The foundation will accept and review applications on a rolling basis with three 2009 deadlines: January 29, March 5, and June 4. Earlier applicants have a higher probability of receiving funding than those who apply later in the calendar year
