STATEMENT OF WORK

1.    Salient Characteristics:

Manufacture and provide 30 programmable neuromuscular stimulators that meet the following specifications:

o    Provide electrical impulses over a single channel meaning that there is 1 positive and 1 negative electrode.
o    Have three modes of operation: off, burst mode operation (cycles of 1-2 sec on at 100 Hz, 1 V followed by a rest period), and intermittent operation using the 'New York' parameters which are 2 seconds ON during which stimulation is provided as a repeated cycles at 40 Hz at 1 V followed by 18 seconds off.
o    Configured such that one can change modes with a simple magnet applied to the stimulator over the skin.
o    Have a battery of sufficient capacity to ensure that the stimulator can provide the New York parameters for 1 hour each day for at least 3 months.
o    Be sterile and ready for implantation.
o    Be outfitted with stainless steel electrodes that end in loops suitable for securing the electrode to tissues.
o    That the microprocessor, battery and other electronics be encapsulated in a silastic capsule.

2.    Objectives:

o    Purchase of 30 implantable microstimulators meeting the design specifications listed in the J&A and thus identical to stimulators used in our prior research.
o    These will be used to provide neuromuscular stimulation to animals with spinal cord injury to test how muscle contraction alone or together with a drug (nandrolone) preserved bone substance after spinal cord injury.

3.    Performance Period:

The stimulators are to be provided as needed for the 12 month period beginning on January 1, 2015. NTE 30 Stimulators in total.

4.    Place of Performance:

The stimulators will be used at the James J Peters VA medical Center, Bronx, NY.
