Building 1371 provides office and laboratory space for unmanned undersea systems engineering for the Naval Undersea Warfare Center (NUWC), Newport, RI. The intention of this project is to design and construct a new 7,700 square foot, two story addition at the northwest corner of Building 1371. The addition is required to support the expanding Autonomous Underwater Vehicle Program. The project will provide laboratory space, computer lab space, general office space, conference space, and battery storage/charging lab space. The addition will be aesthetically consistent with the existing architectural features of the original building. This addition will also be structurally independent and provide a watertight, temperature-controlled work area comprised of laboratory space and office space on the 1st (elevated) floor and a dedicated battery storage/charging area on the basement/grade level.

Project shall add approximately 6,400 SF on the first floor and 1300 SF at the grade level, totaling 7,700 sf additional work space to an existing 102,604 SF building. The addition is proposed for the west side of the building (northwest corner) adjacent to the high bay on the north side of the building.
