The City Parking Services Department manages more than 4,700 metered parking spaces consisting of a combination of surface lot, garage, and on-street parking.
The City maintains an inventory of POM electronic meters which accept coins and SmartCards. The majority of the mechanisms in use have been purchased in the past seven years, so they are in the early stage of their life expectancy.
The Parking Services Department will deploy a number of pay-by-space devices within the next 18 months as a result of this RFP. The success of the initial deployment will be a determining factor in the future deployment of additional devices. The major determining factors on how many devices are deployed will be public acceptance and cost. The City would prefer to select one vendor for current and future deployment. While that is a preference, it is not a guarantee.
