The IAFF is a labor union with a membership of 300,000 active career fire fighters and paramedics across North America. The IAFF produces a quarterly print magazine in addition to hosting various training events and conferences for its members. The IAFF also provides a number of online services for its members, including a meal planning guide, "Fit to Survive". This service facilitates meal-planning and calorie-tracking to enhance rescue workers' job performance and overall quality of life. Other support services available for individual members and their locals include training videos, customized technical assistance and information resources in the areas of labor and collective bargaining and fire and emergency medical services operations.
The average age of the IAFF membership is amongst the lowest in labor unions, and therefore it is important for the IAFF to keep pace with its increasingly tech-savvy membership and their technology preferences. This mobile app, through a familiar format, is intended to support the IAFF membership directly by giving them immediate access to information critical to job performance and also to support the local union leadership.
