Minimizing Water Treatment Residual Discharges To Surface Water
This project will evaluate the strategies for and potential benefits of reducing water treatment residual discharges to surface water. The research will include evaluating water treatment processes and technologies, costs (capital, lifecycle, and service rate impacts), and social and environmental considerations. The project is not limited to regulatory considerations of reducing residuals (e.g., the Clean Water Act), but will consider the full range of economic, environmental, and social considerations.
