North Carolina Central University's Biomanufacturing Research Institute and Technology Enterprise (BRITE) seeks proposals from qualified vendors to develop an industry standard website that will communicate the vision and mission of NCCU and BRITE.
North Carolina ranks among the top three biotechnology regions in the United States. However to continue climbing in this ranking, more employees with the specific training necessary for a biomanufacturing environment are needed. North Carolina's Golden LEAF committed $60 million to address this demand along with several million dollars in federal grants and industry donations. Three programs, known jointly as the Biomanufacturing and Pharmaceutical Training Consortium (BPTC), form the centerpiece of this statewide effort. With rapid advances in bioprocessing, biomanufacturing and biopharmaceutical technologies, and aggressive competition from other states, North Carolina's universities, community colleges, and the biotech industry recognized the immediate need for student and worker access to industrially relevant and large-scale equipment and materials of construction, pilot plant, and clean room experiences, scale-up, validation, and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs).
The Biomanufacturing Research Institute and Technology Enterprise (BRITE) at N.C. Central University, a piece of the Consortium, will be a significant, new contributor to statewide education, economic development, and job creation in the biomanufacturing and pharmaceutical industries in North Carolina. This initiative will serve as a magnet, attracting new business expansions and relocations to North Carolina.
