The Transportation Security Laboratory (TSL) tests and evaluates security systems for deployment in the transportation infrastructure. These systems are used in the aviation, rail, maritime, and highway industries. This particular request solicits information about available and near term solutions that detect weapons and organic threat items hidden in the footwear of personnel. Required parameters addressed should include (1) floor space required; (2) weight of unit; (3) remote operation; (4) probing energy; (5) passive energy detected; (6) Electromagnetic energy exposure of personnel; (7) display; (8) resolution; (9) time for scan; (10) automatic detection of threats. Privacy concerns and health issues are important. Single technology or fusion of several technology solutions is of interest. Discuss how the system would be integrated into present day airport passenger security checkpoints.

Responses should be sent via email to Barry Masters at Barry.Masters@hq.dhs.gov. Any technical questions should be directed to Barry Masters. Please do not send any technical questions or responses to this RFI to the Contracting Officer.
