The Request for Proposal (RFP) is for a turnkey solution to replace our existing IBM Mainframe z/OS tape processing environment with a new Virtual Tape Library (VTL). It is our intent to eliminate as much physical tape processing as possible while providing the required support for our mainframe business continuity. The mainframe provides mission critical data processing and as such the State has a separate Disaster Recovery (DR) datacenter for mainframe business continuity support. The tape virtualization solution must include two separate physical devices - one for the production datacenter and one for the DR datacenter. The solution must support the mainframe business continuity through grid connectivity and automated replication.
The solution must be turn-key and must include any required services to install and implement. This includes but is not limited to physically installing the hardware, configuring the hardware, installing and implementing any required software. The vendor must also include services to migrate the existing tape volume inventory from the current tape environment to the new Virtual Tape Library solution. The tape migration must be non-disruptive to the existing tape processing.
As this RFP is for a turnkey implementation, services to implement the solution are a significant part of the bid. Services include, but are not limited to, the following: Installation and configuration of the hardware, training, and volume copy from the existing tape library.
