Description

Knowledge of gallbladder cancer (GBC) etiology remains limited. Gallstones are a major risk factor for GBC, but little is known about other risk factors that contribute to the development of GBC among gallstone patients. Our objective is to measure AFB1-adduct levels in pre-diagnostic blood samples from GBC cases and non-cases in order to test the hypothesis that aflatoxin exposure is associated with GBC.

This is a follow-up to a previous contract HHSN261201400548P from last fiscal year. Pilot testing was successful and now we are ready to test on a larger scale. In addition to this, Johns Hopkins University is the leading expert in aflatoxin exposure and has published on the capacity of his assay to detect low levels of aflatoxin exposure
