Lift Project
The Council of Governments has partnered with the Depot Board and community stakeholders to develop a plan to enhance the accessibility and safety for all potential Amtrak Customers and Depot visitors, as well as increase the quality of life by supporting and promoting the coordination of the public transportation series across East Texas region. Presently the Depot serving Amtrak is inaccessible for individuals with disabilities. The current stair lift is not operational and has not been for several years. The lift ceased to work as it was not weatherproof. Installation of a weatherproof lift to access the Depot will create an accessible path to improve the safety for persons with disabilities. The weatherproof lift is constructed in a manner that the weather will not interrupt its functionality, thus guaranteeing accessibility for persons with disabilities.
