The Department has an aquatic resource education program that focuses on introducing people of all ages, with an emphasis on families, to fishing and aquatic resources. The Department strongly believes that fishing is more than just catching fish, and educating people furthers the mission of the Department. Fishing gives people a chance to re-connect with the land, experiencing the outdoors in a healthy, happy and ethical manner. Fishing education teaches participants this, along with developing an understanding for the sport and the natural resources it depends upon. The LGF program is designed to use trained volunteers to carry out hands-on workshops that focus on four themes: 1) Hands-on experience fishing 2) Aquatic ecology, management 3) Importance of habitat conservation 4) Ethics
