Land Use Analysis for Civic Center Area
Downtown Amarillo, Inc. (DAI) is seeking a professional consultant to develop an analysis of land uses, both current and proposed, and strategies to provide for long-term success for the Civic Center area in Downtown, Amarillo. Over the last several years, Downtown has seen a resurgence in visitors as well as some residents, sparked in part by the development of a new performing arts center. Many buildings along Polk Street, Downtown Amarillos main street, have been redeveloped, and restaurants and clubs draw residents and visitors back to the Citys core. In 2007, a Downtown Strategic Action Plan, commissioned by the City of Amarillo, was completed. Downtown Amarillo, Inc. was formed to implement the goals outlined in the plan in partnership with the City of Amarillo. Two priority areas of redevelopment are the Polk Street corridor, and the Civic Center area, as well as the connection between the two areas.
The Consultant will be expected to provide an analysis of the existing land use development of the area surrounding the Amarillo Civic Center and Globe News Center for the Performing Arts, identifying factors such as the compatibility of a mix of uses and a strategy for future development, ensuring long-term success and viability of the district, and then based on this analysis, present a report with recommendations that should be taken.
