The State of Maine is interested in acquiring a web browser-based International Registration Plan (IRP) commercial vehicle apportioned registration system for the Department of the Secre-tary of State, Bureau of Motor Vehicles ("the Bureau").
At this time the Maine IRP unit uses the COVERS system from R. L. Polk & Co. for IRP apportioned vehicle registrations and audits. Approved carriers and agents use COVERSnet, an internet enabled subset of COVERS to process some IRP transactions online. The Bureau intends to replace the existing system and have software developed, tested, and operating no later than July 1, 2010.
As of June 30, 2007, there are over 8,400 apportioned vehicles registered in Maine and listed on the current system. A successful transition of this data would be a necessary compo-nent of the work in moving to a new system.
