The organization seeks to develop a hard-hitting, factual and measured interactive online engagement tool (interactive infographic, video, animation, quiz, something entirely different, or some combination therein) that exposes the misinformation and distortions of science from opponents of climate change and clean energy. It will focus on the tactics/messages employed by the network of opposition groups funded by fossil fuel interests to influence policy makers as well as the misinformation some policy makers perpetuate in their own messaging. The feature will demonstrate the opposition’s progression from misleading on the science of the health impacts of tobacco use to misleading on the dangers of climate change and the promise of renewable energy. Such a web feature could also point to examples of legitimate scientific input policy makers should heed when making decisions about climate and energy. To help facilitate engagement, the tool should also include ways to capture user information so UCS can continue to engage visitors through our email network. The web feature would live on our main Convio-hosted web site and would be used as part of our campaign outreach efforts, including emails, action alerts, partner events, scientist outreach, and more.
