Inefficiency in health care delivery impedes effective patient care and contributes to the high cost of providing care. This project offers California safety-net hospitals (hospitals operated by county or city governments, critical access hospitals, and disproportionate share hospitals) the opportunity to find new ways to reduce costs and improve patient flow while maintaining the quality of care.

Management engineering is being used by hospitals to improve efficiency. The California HealthCare Foundation (CHCF) and the University of Southern California School of Engineering want to demonstrate the effectiveness of the management engineering tools through demonstration projects at California safety-net hospitals. We wish to identify hospitals seeking operational improvements in surgery. Under this RFP, the USC School of Engineering will conduct management engineering projects at three qualifying hospitals, without charge, to further this purpose.
