Implement an instance of a Nationwide Health Information Network Gateway
The purpose of this Request for Proposals (RFP) is to implement an instance of a Nationwide Health Information Network Gateway (NHIN Gateway) to support the NCHICA Nationwide Health Information Network (NHIN) project. NCHICA has been a participant in the NHIN project as established by the federal Department of Health and Human Services Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC) since 2005. ONC has requested that NCHICA implement an instance of an NHIN Gateway for a mature Health Information Exchange Organization (HIO) in North Carolina. This project responds to ONCs strategic plan supporting the implementation of the NHIN as a common platform for health information exchange across diverse entities, within communities and across the country, thus helping to achieve the meaningful use and other goals of the HITECH Act. This critical part of the National health IT agenda will enable health information to follow the consumer, be available for clinical decision making, and support appropriate use of healthcare information beyond direct patient care so as to improve public health.
