Marin County Community Mental Health Services (CMHS) requests proposals for Integrating Behavioral Health in Primary Care. Integrating Behavioral Health in Primary Care combines medical and behavioral health services to more fully address the spectrum of problems that patients bring to primary medical care. Because the majority of patients in primary care have physical and mental health concerns, often that are directly inter-related, it is clinically effective and cost effective to make behavioral health providers part of primary medical care. By integrating mental health education, screening and early intervention into physical health care systems, concerns such as depression, trauma, anxiety, and substance abuse can be addressed by effective brief intervention. Marin County CMHS has a maximum of $360,000 available annually to cover the expenses incurred under a contract or contracts to be awarded as a result of this RFP. These funds are expected to implement services in at least two health care sites. The estimated start date for the program is May 15, 2009.
