In 2006, the CAN-C Steering Committee conducted the HEAL planning process by creating working groups for each HEAL sector (healthcare, schools, worksites, and neighborhoods). Representatives from community based organization, health clinics, local businesses, schools, neighborhood residents, and others attended the sessions. At the end of the community planning process, representatives from all four sectors met, conducted a final revise of the sector plan, and gave input. The outcome was the development of a Community Action Plan (CAP). (CAP available upon request.)
Representatives from the four HEAL sectors began participating in workgroups in 2007, developing CAP-based projects to implement. The projects are approved by the HEAL Implementation Leadership Team (HILT) to ensure that they are consistent with the HEAL plan and program guidelines.
HEAL's Grant Program provides grants up to $15,000. These include mini-grants (under $5,000), large grants ($5,000-$15,000), and/or matching grants (grants made to match funds provided by other donors). There is a $1,000 minimum request. Grant recipients will have approximately one year to complete the grant-funded project. Projects must help HEAL achieve one or more of the Priority Outcomes for 2007-2010 as explained in section A.
