Project description: The internationally acclaimed architecture and town planning firm Duany Plater-Zyberk (DPZ) & Company has created a $5-million venture capital fund which seeks to invest in 5 to 10 municipalities throughout the US that intend to direct their growth along the lines of new urbanism rather than suburban sprawl. Specifically, the Fund seeks to work with local governments to:
* Identify sites ideally located for smart growth, traditional neighborhood development and transit-oriented development. * Design plans and codes for their construction. * Secure entitlements so that construction may occur as-of-right. * Develop the properties collaboratively or transfer the approved plans to developers prepared to follow the plans.
The Fund is especially interested in municipalities that would like to see new urbanism but have been unsuccessful or disappointed in previous attempts at introducing it to their communities.
Award amount: A $5 million venture capital fund is available.
