The Refrigerated Warehouse Initiative of the Food Industry Energy Research (FIER) Program, part of the California Energy Commissions Public Interest Energy Research Program (PIER), intends to fund proposals for research projects that encourage energy efficiency, cost savings, reliability, and environmental stewardship in the refrigerated warehouse sector of the Californias food processing industry. This sector is responsible for over 20% of the electrical energy consumption of the California food industry, and energy conservation in this sector has significant impact on the energy use throughout the state.
This solicitation primarily focuses on electrical energy efficiency and conservation, and reliability RD&D opportunities. However, other energy fuels such as natural gas may also be eligible if the proposed RD&D can directly and substantially affect electrical energy efficiency and/or conservation.
