Through the provision of intensive, in-home services, the objective of Family
Preservation is to assist families to enhance family functioning, targeting
improved communications, non-violent problem resolution, access to resources
for basic needs, and skills development. Family Preservation targets families of
juveniles under supervision by the department and those who are at risk of
removal from the home. Behaviors which have brought the juvenile to the
attention of juvenile authorities are expected to diminish in relation to the success
of in-home family interventions. It is understood that in certain instances the
target of the intervention may become the youth while additional strategies are
employed to engage reluctant family members.
