The International Standards for the Professional Practice of Internal Auditing issued by the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA Standards) require external quality assessments (QA) of the internal audit activity to be conducted at least once every five years by a qualified, independent reviewer or review team from outside the organization. The last external QA of the internal audit function of the Office of Audit and Investigations (OAI) was completed in 2007. OAI is currently rated "Generally Conforms" with the IIA Standards and the Code of Ethics.
