Recently, Historic New England received a grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) to provide expanded and improved public access to its nationally significant wallpaper collection. The project includes digitization of the recently added 2,000-piece Waterhouse Archive of Historic Wallpaper (already underway), as well as upgrades to and customization of an existing searchable online wallpaper database of 4,250 records at HistoricNewEngland.org. The resulting expanded online wallpaper database will make more than 6,000 records of historic wallpaper
available to the public online, and will include access to new, high-resolution imagery of the collection. As part of the wallpaper digitization project, Historic New England seeks to implement website enhancements that provide more effective search and browse capabilities to our existing collections database, as well as collection-specific enhancements that improve access to and interpretation of our wallpaper collection.
