The Defense Logistics Agency (DLA), Office of Research & Development (R&D), in support of DLA Information Operations is seeking information on how an interested contractor will provide a metadata management tool to provide better access and understanding of DLA data to operations analysts.
DLA data users face challenges in searching for and finding required data to carry out their jobs, or to do so more efficiently, spending large amounts of time searching for data sets located in various systems and data sources throughout the organization or external to DLA. In addition, analysts often require collaboration with SMEs to gain an understanding of data sets before analysis, but lack the knowledge of the right Point of Contact or an efficient method of communicating these data needs. A lack of documentation of metadata from a technical (physical) layer also makes it difficult for business users to gain the right understanding of available data assets and to leverage the data to drive business value. A metadata management tool that will make data more easily discoverable and understandable, as well as create a centralized location and platform for collaboration, will aid in addressing these challenges and support the overall DLA data strategy.
