Oceana is the largest international advocacy group working solely to protect the world's oceans. Oceana wins policy victories for the oceans using science-based campaigns. Since 2001, we have protected over 1.2 million square miles of ocean and innumerable sea turtles, sharks, dolphins and other sea creatures. More than 500,000 supporters have already joined Oceana. Oceana is looking for an experienced editor or team to launch and run a new website celebrating all that is cool about the oceans. The editor should demonstrate the qualifications to perform the work described in the Scope of Services. The general direction of the site is to generate and aggregate creative content for a broad audience and to be shared widely. The website must be intuitive, visually pleasing, and mobile friendly.

SCOPE OF SERVICES

Editorial
Overseeing daily content for the site - at least three (3) posts daily including identifying, hiring and managing freelance content providers, if needed. Posts will be designed technically and through content strategy for social sharing.
Researching, developing, and writing content as needed.
Maintaining editorial balance and quality to ensure content is relevant to overall theme of the site.

Advertising
Develop a social media promotional plan that covers how the editor will operate related accounts and enable engagement on-site.
Run and analyze monthly analytics reports on site and social media performance, include proposed changes in content, site to increase traffic (due with monthly invoice).

Administrative/Finances
Working with Oceana Creative team on details of the design and finalizing design for proposed site with a contracted developer.
Maintaining secure access to the site.
Work with Oceana's team to develop package of brand-appropriate partnerships with outside organizations related to the website.

REQUIREMENTS
The contractor must have a minimum of two years of experience providing editorial services to websites. The contractor will work from their own office.

INSTRUCTIONS AND PROPOSAL REQUIREMENTS

Proposal Format
Proposer must describe their capacity to produce our website and incorporate his or her proposal for the website, including features, general social media promotional plan, and unique approach. They must list 2-3 websites they have edited that best reflect their work and relevancy to this project. The URL should be submitted for each website. Sites must be live to qualify during evaluation-otherwise, proposers need provide explanation and archived account of the work. They should provide 3 current or former clients or relevant colleagues as references.

Schedule
The RFP is open until 15 August 2014. Quoted price must be inclusive. If your price excludes certain fees or charges, you must provide a detailed list of excluded fees with a complete explanation of the nature of those fees. Top candidates will be interviewed and finalists will be invited to give a presentation on their proposal and relevant experience.
CONTRACT
Project Blue has a moderate budget for the editor, basic design and some freelance writers as needed. Estimated $60,000 - $80,000 for FY14.

REVISIONS TO THE RFP
Oceana reserves the right to revise, cancel, or reissue the RFP in whole or in part, prior to execution of a contract. Any changes will be posted at: oceana.org/projectblue. Oceana is not responsible for any costs incurred during the proposal process unless agreed to by authorized representatives of Oceana.
