The Department is seeking services for the Drop Zone (DZ) Brush Management Project. Brush encroachment into open grassland areas may limit access for training activity. Patches of prickly pear (Opuntia spp.) and mesquite (Prosopis glandulosa Torr) are found near the edges of the DZ. The contractor must make a good faith effort to reduce compaction of soil and herbaceous vegetation. The objective of this project is to manage brush on 60 acres of the Heartbreak DZ. This will a) provide a safer DZ for soldiers, b) create more access for aerial drop exercises and light maneuver training exercises, c) reduce future maintenance burdens associated with heavy brush accumulations, and d) reduce fuel loads to mitigate the risk of extreme wildfire events on the drop zone.
