Development of a Water Utility Primer on EDCs/PPCPs for Public Outreach
The objective of this project is to distill and synthesize current information on endocrine disrupting compounds, pharmaceuticals, and personal care products (EDCs/PPCPs) into a primer that drinking water utilities can use to inform and communicate with non-technical audiences. The primer will be comprehensive and will include information on the occurrence of EDCs/PPCPs in water, relative toxicological significance, treatment, minimization strategies, and regulatory status of EDCs/PPCPs in drinking water. The primer will assist water utility managers in communicating the state-of-the-science of EDCs/PPCPs in water, and will also provide some context on the factors that drinking water utility managers consider when making decisions on monitoring, source water protection, and treatment, if EDCs/ PPCPs are detected in water.
