It is expected that addressing the Demand Flow Chiller Plant Optimization (CPO) will result in large energy savings gained by implementing variable/demand flow plant operations schemes along with variable frequency drives (VFD) control of the associated fan and pumping systems throughout GBA facilities. In addition it is expected that changes to the operating parameters will greatly reduce energy usage.

The CPO should increase the deliverable tonnage of the chiller plant by eliminating excessive chiller compressor energy and excessive pumping energies; to decrease KW/Ton at all load conditions. Much of the needed VFD controlled equipment has been installed under a current ESCO project. Because of the completed work, it is therefore expected that design and implementation of the new work under this improvement will result in a reduced cost for this implementation allowing a much more impressive payback. The new plant and system control logic and sequencing will shift the chiller refrigerant cycle to high efficient areas and lower the operating costs to achieve a great return on investment. Operating costs are reduced not just by reduced energy consumption. The increased system deliverable tonnage allows for less pumps and chillers to operate at any given time, reducing wear and tear on the equipment, extending the life-cycle of the machines.
