WORK DESCRIPTION
Title: Decorative Painting - Stairway to Wellness Project
Introduction and Overview
The James J Peters VA Medical Center (JJPVAMC) is looking to increase stairway usage by improving the appearance of its stairways with the addition of beautiful, inspiring mural paintings painted by, preferable, a local artist.
Our main hospital building consists of 9 floors and houses 500+ employees. The building structure is tall versus wide so employees spend a lot of time waiting on elevators to get to the various floors. This in not only time consuming, but employees are not taking full advantage of the opportunity to improve their health goals by using the stairs.
Research shows that employees are often hesitant to take the stairs because they perceive stairwells as unattractive and/ or unsafe. Painting, artwork, motivational signs and music have all been shown to help increase the use of stairs. Stair climbing is one of the easiest ways to increase physical activity. It is low impact with significant rewards it reduces risk of coronary heart disease; improves blood pressure, blood sugar and blood lipid levels; maintains body weight and lowers risk of obesity.
With the addition of this artwork, employees and veterans alike will be inspired to use the stairs and improve health.
Scope of Work
JJP Bronx VAMC is seeking the services of, preferable, a local mural artist to complete a mural painting project in the stairways of the hospital.

Period of Performance
The contractor shall complete the work within 4 months or less from the date of the award, unless otherwise directed by the Contracting Officer.
