PURCHASE DESCRIPTION

1. Statement of Need and Purpose: We need to purchase 500 gm of [U-13C6]glucose for studying metabolism in human brain.

2. Background Information and Objective:
MR Spectroscopy Section and Core have been conducting research projects using carbon-13 (13C) glues to study brain metabolism of healthy volunteers. Because natural abundance of 13C is only 1%, natural 13C signal is too weak to be detected. Thus, we need to use 13C enriched chemicals to increase 13C signal intensity.
In an ongoing project, [U-13C6] glucose is used. Each human study will use 40-50 grams of [U-13C6] glucose. We need to purchase more of this material for continuing study.

3. Generic Name of Product: D-GLUCOSE (U-13C6, 99%) MICROBIOLOGICAL/PYROGEN TESTED

4. Purchase Description: D-GLUCOSE (U-13C6, 99%) MICROBIOLOGICAL/PYROGEN TESTED.

5. Salient characteristics: FOR ALL MICROBIOLOGICAL & PYROGEN TESTED MATERIA THE BULK LOT IS TESTED AT RELEASE FOR: S.aureus, P.aeruginosa, E. coli, Salmonella sp., AEROBIC BACTERIA, YEAST, MOLD, BACTERIAL ENDOTOXI AND HEAVY METALS. NOTE THAT CIL PERFORMS RELEASE TESTING ONLY ON THE BULK LOT. SUBSEQUENT ALIQUOT ARE NOT RE-TESTED. BEST BULK PACKAGING WILL BE PROVIDED, UNLESS OTHERWISE SPECIFIED. ALL BOTTLES MAY BE OVERPACKED BY ~2-3% TO ENSURE AT LEAST THE QUOTED QUANTITY PER BOTTLE.
THE RETESTING DATE MUST BE FIVE (5) YEARS FROM THE DATE THE D-GLUCOSE (U-13C6, 99%) IS PRODUCED AND INCLUDE DOCUMENTATION THAT DEMONSTRATES THE DATE WHEN THE MATERIAL WAS PRODUCED AND THE DATE OF RETESTING.
