DEVELOPMENT OF A COMPREHENSIVE ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT PLAN
The City of Belle Plaines Economic Development Authority (EDA) is seeking a qualified
consultant to assist the City in developing a comprehensive economic development plan. Belle
Plaine, a growing community of approximately 6,700 people, is located south of Minneapolis/St.
Paul on TH 169, in the southwestern corner of Scott County in the metro area. Belle Plaine is
ideally located between two major markets, approximately 40 miles from the Twin Cities
metropolitan area, and Mankato, a regional center in southwestern Minnesota. Belle Plaines
overall community dynamics are greatly influenced by its location in terms of economy, land
values, development patterns, and overall sense of community. Belle Plaine is nestled in the
Minnesota River Valley that runs through the northern portion of the community. A historic
downtown, abundant parks and open spaces, attractive neighborhoods, and a state-of-the art
assisted and independent living facility to be opening this summer, all make up the growing
community of Belle Plaine.
