NEW YORK STATE, DIVISION OF CRIMINAL JUSTICE SERVICES
FOR DELINQUENCY PREVENTION PROGRAM.
(At this time, approximately $188,000 is available for distribution.)
Preventing delinquent behavior is a much more cost-effective means of reducing juvenile crime than efforts to rehabilitate adjudicated juvenile delinquents after the onset of serious criminal behavior. In addition to reducing the human and financial losses caused by crime, effective delinquency prevention also reduces the need for costly juvenile justice processing, adjudication and incarceration. All juvenile justice funding received by New York State and awarded to local governments must target at risk or delinquent youth 7-15 years of age, or PINS aged 7-17, the age of Family Court jurisdiction.
