The Santa Ana Watershed Data Management System (SAWDMS) is a watershedwide database management system designed to serve as a central repository/Data
Portal for a variety of water-related data, including water quality information, groundwater levels and surface water flow. Data collected may also include rainfall data, stream flow data, existing and future land use maps, and all sampling data collected as part of the TMDL development. Because of funding availability the project is separated into two phases.
Task Order 1 will implement Phase 1 of the database and will include groundwater levels and groundwater quality. The goal of Phase 1 is to standardize data from numerous stakeholders in the watershed, to allow internet access to the data by appropriate entities, and to be used as a tool to improve water quality in the watershed including future TMDL efforts and ongoing TMDL development efforts.
Successful completion of this project will be measured by having an established data management system available on the internet for stakeholders to use.
Tasking in Phase 1 will include (among other related tasks) the collection and conversion of groundwater data to a standardized format, installation of this data at SAWPA, installation of a web-based user interface (using GIS and related database technology) to allow access to the data, and establishment of a database linkage between this portal and one off-site database (at another agency). A 20-month
program is envisioned to implement Phase 1 and make it a live, complete project.
Phase 2 of the project is included as an Optional Task Order that may or may not be implemented, pending funding availability. If funding for Phase 2 is obtained an optional second Task Order will be implemented to collect and upload additional data as described in Task Order 2. This will include other data types, and additional linkages to other off-site databases. Phase 2 is expected to require 23 months to
accomplish.
