Comprehensive Update of Zoning Ordinance and Creation of a Unified Development Ordinance
Matthews NC (26,500+ population) is immediately southeast of the City of Charlotte. Although tremendous growth residential, office, and commercial has occurred over the past two decades, the zoning regulations have not been completely reviewed and updated since 1988. Matthews has successfully employed conditional district zoning during this time. The community is ready to reconsider how developments are designed and the way in which they are approved, so a significant revision of the development regulations is timely. A substantial public/public official education and input process shall be used throughout the project. Expected completion is 14 to 18 months.
