This involves velocity and flow visualization testing of chemical hoods. Measurements collected will be in accordance with the American Society of Heating, Refrigeration and Air-Conditioning Engineers, Inc. (ASHRAE). Standard 110-1995 Method of Testing Performance of Laboratory Fume Hoods (6.1 through 6.4.3). University testing methods also requires hood testing in the full open and 18 inch sash height positions.
Testing will be performed by an industrial hygiene technician trained and experienced in chemical hood certification. The technician will measure the hood dimensions, perform the testing as defined abover, and record the data on field data forms. Hoods that do not meet the defined criteria will be posted as Failed/Do not Use A report of the hoods that do not meet criteria will be provided to Clemson University EHS personnel that day or the following business day.
