The Art Advisory Committee (AAC) at Rady Childrens Hospital San Diego (RCHSD) is
seeking to commission artists for a variety of artwork for their New Acute Care Pavilion (NACP)
project in San Diego, California.
The committee is soliciting responses to this RFQ from qualified San Diego, Riverside and
Imperial County artists who may be interested in providing inspirational, healing and refreshing
images in a wide variety of mediums. This includes 2-dimensional and 3-dimensional artwork,
including original art, limited edition prints, giclee prints, mixed media art, mosaics, ceramics,
graphic images, fabric art, collages, small sculpture of any medium, ceramic tile murals,
environmental murals and photography. Both existing and commissioned artwork will be
considered. Selected artwork will be placed in the new pavilion entryway, lobbies, corridors,
wall niches, niches built into nurses stations and reception desks, patient rooms, examination
rooms and waiting rooms.
What the Pavilion includes:
Located immediately adjacent to the Rose Pavilion, the NACP will be a LEED-certified "green"
building, designed to provide the most advanced medical care. With 84 new medical surgical
beds to address the critical shortage of pediatric beds in the region and new care centers, RCHSD
will become the largest children's hospital in the state. Here you will find excellent medicine, but
you will never forget that this is a hospital for kids. Think of it as "state-of-the-art" meeting
"state-of-the-heart." The new Pavilion will include, the Warren Family Surgical Center, Neonatal
Intensive Care Unit (NICU), and Hematology/Oncology Care Center.
In the new Pavilion, at the Warren Family Surgical Center, there will be 16 new surgical suites,
the smallest of which will be bigger than the largest current operating room. There will be room
for the latest technology - the best care. This state-of-the-art technology is matched with a
comfortable waiting area with lovely gardens for the families, a place for the healing of both
bodies and spirits for patients and families.
The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) is one of the best in the country, but it is often filled to
capacity. If there is a medical procedure happening in the unit, families of other babies must
sometimes stay away, missing precious time with their babies. Our new NICU will feature
private rooms - soothing areas for the families of our tiniest and sickest little patients. Once
again, this will be matched with incredible medical advances to ensure the best care.
At the Hematology/Oncology Care Center, we already treat more than 130 new patients each
year. There is amazing research going on here including lifesaving medicines and treatments for
kids with cancer. The new unit continues this tradition of excellence. With 38 private rooms and
advanced HEPA air filtration, we can reduce the risks of infection for our most vulnerable
chemotherapy patients and their families.
