The State is issuing this Request for Proposal to obtain competitive responses from vendors to provide cable television services located in Manhattan, KS.
The campus community requires the capability of distributing a wide variety of video-based information and content including: real-time news and information, academic/classroom content, and student/campus life information, as well as typical entertainment content. This video-based information shall be distributed as widely as possible throughout the campus using the most cost effective, flexible, and expandable means available.
Video distribution on the campus has been limited to a CATV system for the students living in the residence halls and for selected academic buildings. Campus outside plant infrastructure consists of single mode fiber optic cabling to all campus buildings. All campus buildings currently could be serviced with the existing Hybrid Fiber-Coax (HFC) system.
The campus data network is a high availability fiber optic backbone throughout its core and distribution to the campus buildings via gigabit Ethernet or better connections from the five main distribution hubs. The network core and distribution hubs consist of the Cisco 6509G model switches. The building entry and distribution layers of the network consist primarily of Cisco 3750, 3560, 3550, 3548, 2948 and 4912 switches. Physical connectivity in campus buildings is by either Category-5 (CAT5) or Category-6 (CAT6) cabling.
