The City hereby gives notice to all interested parties that the city seeks proposals for alternative plans for the city’s asset known as the Milam Bridge. The city was awarded a Transportation Enhancement Grant to restore the structure into a pedestrian pathway that would connect to a sidewalk system on both sides of the structure. Due to budgetary concerns with the original plans, the city seeks alternative proposals for the long term use of the structure.
The Historic Milam Bridge is a steel truss bridge over the Etowah River constructed in the early 20th century. The bridge is approximately two hundred and twenty feet long and is currently missing all flooring planks and the two ramps entering up on the bridge. It has been out of service since 1979. Currently, the city holds title to the structure and is believed to have access to the bridge from the east side only.
