Request for Proposal
This RFP is intended to solicit artists and craft persons for a public art bicycle rack project.
Budget

artist/design fees, materials, construction, etc. Artists may submit multiple applications. The Citys construction
contractor will install the bicycle racks.
Project Description
This project will emphasize the balance between form and function by creating two artful bicycle parking racks.
The two selected bicycle rack sculptures will be located in front of the new District Court Building that is
currently under construction at the northeast corner of Church Ave and Rock St. Each bicycle rack shall be
capable of having two bicycles attached with either a standard U-shaped lock or cable lock. Please reference
Attachment A: Site Drawing for required additional project information.
Specifications for Design

scratch or damage bicycle frames.
2. All work shall be safe, tamper-resistant, easily maintained and have a durable coating (example:
powder-coated steel).
3. Artists should approach the project as a permanent installation when considering materials. The work
will be installed into a concrete sidewalk. A small (approx. 3x5) recognition plaque will be furnished
by the City of Fayetteville.
4. Location requirements:
a. Please see attached drawing for dimensions (Attachment A). Attachment B has been included to
present the site elevation.
b. The work should be of an appropriate height and design so that it will not create a hazard for
visually impaired pedestrians.
c. Each piece of artwork must accommodate at least two bicycles parked parallel to the curb.
5. The sculpture must be designed so that it functions as a bicycle rack and it should be easy to use. The
artwork must allow the bicycle frame and one or both wheels to be secured to the rack. Most sizes and
shapes of bicycles should be able to easily use the rack.
Selection
A selection committee will be comprised of various stakeholders including representatives of the City of
Fayetteville, City Council, Arts Council, District Court Judge, Bicycle Coalition of the Ozarks and a working
artist. The committee will select one or more artists (or artist teams) to review proposals and possibly conduct
interviews. The artist(s) will be paid one-half of the project cost upon the notice of award and one-half upon
project completion/installation.
