In brief, the dashboard will utilize Sharepoint's portal/intranet capabilities to share information with members of the BWH research community (approximately 6,000 people). We would also use Sharepoint as an extranet to enable communication and knowledge sharing with colleagues throughout the world. Collaboration is an essential activity for biomedical researchers, and we would like them to interact with each other via the dashboard, for example, to post resources, to rate events or resources, to locate others, etc. In addition to content management functionality, we also intend to pull information in from other data sources, such as PubMed, Harvard Catalyst Profiles and BWH Find a Researcher (which will be live this fall). We would also want modules for discussions, displaying publications, bookmarking, RSS readers and feeders. Giving users the ability to personalize their site (or parts of it) would be required. Content may need to be migrated from an Autonomy/Interwoven content management system to Sharepoint. BWH has a local team to manage end user training and change management. PHS has a local team to manage ongoing support and maintenance, so an out of the box approach might be preferable.
