Early Childhood Research Quarterly is regarded as the
leading scholarly journal in its field. Publishing peerreviewed
research from leading scholars in the United States and other countries, ECRQ aims to publish research representing the highest standards of quality, with significant potential to influence policy and practice. Founded in 1986, the journal is sponsored by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) and published by Elsevier.

ECRQ is a quarterly journal of approximately 150 pages per issue (typically seven articles averaging 35 to 40 manuscripts pages each). It receives 130 to 150 manuscripts a year. The Editor reviews all submissions for their appropriateness. Approximately 10 percent of submissions are returned to authors without peer review. All others are reviewed by a minimum of two scholars from among Editorial Board members, Consulting Editors, and ad hoc reviewers.

The journal requests detailed, critical yet constructive reviews and has a reputation for providing extensive feedback to authors.

The Editor has primary responsibility for the journals content and has the discretion to appoint one or more Associate Editors (ECRQ currently has four Associate Editors). Following the initial review of a submitted manuscript, the Editor or an Associate Editor assigns reviewers based on a careful match of substantive and methodological expertise. After rereading the manuscript and considering the reviewers comments and recommendations, the Editor or Associate Editor makes a decision about the manuscripts disposition.
