Assesment of Plankton

The Department seeks proposals to complete an assessment of plankton at Marion Reservoir in conjunction with a fish removal project. In the past this reservoir has been plagued with blue-green algae blooms that have resulted in public advisories, lost recreational opportunities, and problems with domestic water supply. The Department has sanctioned removal of bigmouth buffalo, smallmouth buffalo, and common carp since February 2008 in hopes to change dynamics of the
plankton population to better control cyanobacteria.
The Department seeks proposals to assess zooplankton and phytoplankton (including cyanobacteria) populations in Marion Reservoir from June through October 2010. The proposal should include an assessment of population structure by species (when possible) and density, chlorophyll a, and major nutrients during the time.
