It is the intention of the Library Association (LA) to renovate and expand the current library facility on the present property or build a new facility on another property. The Building Program developed in 2009 proposes an expansion from the current approximate 6,000 square foot building to a facility of approximately 14,000 square feet. The current library sits on a lot of approximately 21,640 square feet. The LA also owns a recently vacated firehouse of approximately 3,800 square feet on this property. The original two-story library building, constructed in 1922 and comprised of a ground floor of 600 square feet and a loft of 500 square feet, must be preserved and renovated. Later additions to the library building and the firehouse may be renovated or demolished as part of the expansion, with new construction comprising the remainder of the desired square footage. As the Library is within the Historic Village District, all building plans must be approved by the Architectural Review Board and meet appropriate Planning and Zoning regulations. An outdoor book sale consisting which requires 1,200 linear feet of table space operates from Memorial Day through October and provides a significant annual revenue stream. Any design must include display space for this activity. We plan to use a general contractor.
